Plan Tier - Pro and Above

Technical Difficulty (1-10) - 2

Did you know, you can now use your own domains to send brand, product, and feedback surveys from ResellerRatings.com. So instead of our survey coming from @resellerratings.com, it would come from @yourstore.com! It takes a little bit of technical work on your side, but open and conversion rates tend to always be higher for emails coming from your domain and are more consistent with your brand.

Advantages to using your own domain

  1. Your customer is already expecting emails from your domain, they are more likely to open these mailers

  2. The customer doesn’t feel like they are taken out of your brand’s journey, narrative, and experience

Let’s get started

Go to Store > Setup > Email Address

1. Enter in your From Email for your custom domain

Go to the ResellerRatings Settings Configuration page for BRAND Review Mailers.

Enter in an email address for a mailbox on your domain into the input box. For example, surveys@mystore.com or reviews@mystore.com

Note

* Email address must be on a custom domain you control

* Email address mailbox must be monitored (cannot be a no-reply address)

2. Approval

After submitting the email address for use ResellerRatings will go through a series of steps to enable sending email through the supplied address. At this point we will send an email requesting approval and confirming you in fact own the address specified.

It looks something like this -

3. Configuration

Once approved we will continue through a series of steps to generate the necessary configuration values necessary to completely enable sending through your domain.

3.1 SPF

Email servers all over the world use SPF records to confirm that the email servers sending email for an email address are allowed to. Without these records there’s a very high chance any email sent will be considered spam and ignored. An SPF record is a bit of text in a DNS entry that lists ResellerRatings’ email servers as an approved sender.

The necessary details and settings will be explained on the dashboard pages after approval has been received.

How To

  1. Login to your DNS provider. In many cases this will be the company hosting your website and then into a configuration allowing you to adjust the DNS management. If you are unsure we may be able to provide a little direction.

  2. Create a new or add to an existing SPF or TXT entry the necessary value. An SPF record typically starts with v=spf1. Value:

  3. include:merchantmail.resellerratings.com
    1. To create an entirely new SPF record add a new TXT (or SPF depending on your host’s options):

v=spf1 include:merchantmail.resellerratings.com ~all
  1. Submit your changes.

  2. Allow for up to 48 hours for changes to propagate.

Note

Multiple SPF include: values can exist to enable multiple mail servers to send email from your domain. This is the most common scenario as you’ll want to enable the mail servers you use for your primary email service. A domain can only have a single SPF record but can have multiple includes, ie: v=spf1 include:googlemail.com include:merchantmail.resellerratings.com ~all etc

3.2 DKIM

ResellerRatings is happy to provide DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) which is a feature to improve the deliverability of email coming from ResellerRatings through your domain. DKIM is optional and requires further changes to your DNS settings. Each client will have unique DKIM settings for each email address used with ResellerRatings and the configuration details will be explain on the dashboard pages. Please contact your customer service representative should you have any questions.

Note

When using DKIM your email address is locked in and cannot be changed without completely disabling the feature and restarting the process.

Selecting Mailers

With our pro tier or higher you can select which of ResellerRatings’ products use your custom email:

  1. Product Reviews

All reviews asking for a product review will go through this custom email address.

  1. Seller Ratings

All reviews asking for reviews about your brand and store will use this email address.

Any mailer not enabled to use the custom email address will be sent using the standard ResellerRatings from address for that particular feature.

Testing

It’s important for you to test this out, so here are some ways we suggest you can test it.

  • Use the test button on the dashboard page

  • Upload an accelerator file

  • Use the ResellerRatings test pages

  • Trigger the full process through your own implementation

Things to note

Any and all email coming back from these mailers will not come to us. So for example, if someone replies asking to unsubscribe or does a data privacy request to delete their data, your team will have to be responsible for this. Reply backs to our emails go to our support line and will no longer if they are coming from your domain. It is imperative that this email address be monitored in some fashion.
